Healthy Acres was born with one purpose in mind: to teach young sisters Anushka and Anya how to grow plants, run an orchard, and build a business from the ground up. Today, almost 4 years later, the sister team is working to pass on the same message and inspire a new generation of farmers – a generation that blends emerging technology with tried and proven farming management techniques.

Nestled in the hills of Moorpark CA, Healthy Acres was meant as an experiment. Built in 2004, the orchard had fallen into disrepair and fruit were wasting on the trees. As first-time farmers with no experience in the industry and just out of middle school, Anushka and Anya sat around the dinner table and brainstormed how to turn the farm around. They realized it would not be easy; they would have to start from the beginning and learn about agriculture, business, and everything else in-between. But despite these challenges, they were inspired to change the way food was grown. That spring day, Healthy Acres was created. Their mission was, and is, simple: a commitment to grow fresh, sustainable produce while supporting the land, people, and community. While the mission is simple, the journey has not been. Many mistakes and learning opportunities later, Anushka and Anya remain committed to their mission and community promise. They explore new eco-friendly methods of farming (such as mulching and water conservation), create blog posts about their farming adventures to inspire others to start farming, and regularly donate their time and produce to food pantries through agencies such as Food Forward.
