Cycles of Spring – Rejuvenation

Wellness at the farm! How perfect does that sound? It’s very debatable whether we need the farm or if the farm needs us to enhance the harmonic quotient in each of us. Whether exploring new farming techniques or enjoying the delicious produce, all activities on the farm lead to the dissemination of wellness at each level of our existence.

As we experience the first knock of spring, it’s all hands on deck to prune our trees. It’s nature’s call to us! Our trees need to get rid of the unwanted or dead extensions to bring in sunlight and let the leaves “breathe”. What about us? Don’t our extensions and unwanted habits also need pruning? How about getting rid of undesirable lethargy, laziness, and sedentary lives to embrace the health of each cell, for each tissue to dance on the happy melodies of Spring, which is just knocking outside the door!

How about running out the door as if there’s no tomorrow and find that hidden pleasure of endorphins hidden inside us! Nature has structured all of us in a way that we can find new “us” within us. The amazing process of regeneration keeps happening inside us all the time. Imagine if our whole cycle of persistent rebirth or regeneration was seasoned with healthy living – whether it be long walks, yoga, some exercise, and some laughter with our families. One step towards health can lead to a complete physical and mental transformation – so why wait?

It’s a natural tendency of any creature, including humans, to stretch after waking up in the morning. It’s nature’s way of asking us to get up and get some activity. When we sit for a long time or have been inactive for a long period of time, the space among our internal organs can reduce and they start cramping inside and thus cry for a stretch out. In Yoga, we prevent this through an organic stretch called “Tadasana” or the Palm tree pose. In its simplest form, one has to stand straight like a Palm tree with a distance of 12 inches between the feet. Take a deep whiff of oxygen and stretch up with heels and arms up and stay, holding the healing elixir of life force inside as long as possible and then very gracefully come down. Let there be a synchronization of the 3 rhythms: your arms movement, your breathing (in while going up and out while coming down), and the rising of your feet. Let there be at least 6 repetitions.
